In this workshop you will explore the concepts of:

• • Social solidarity economy
  • Human security in the context of sustainable development
  • Open government and innovation

This session will present how local governments should address these issues, especially in a post-pandemic context.

At the end of this workshop you will be able to:

• • Identify the necessary factors for local innovation
  • Understand the cycles of public innovation for local development
  • Analyze the dimensions of local development in a context of social solidarity economy
  • Understand the challenges of implementation

About the Facilitator:

Currently a researcher at Florida International University. She was First Lady of the Republic of Costa Rica (May 2014 – May 2018) assuming the coordination of the Program for the promotion of territorial development and promotion of public policies of decentralization and promotion of social solidarity economy.

For more than a decade she worked at the Foundation for Local Development and Municipal and Institutional Strengthening of Central America and the Caribbean (DEMUCA Foundation), an instrument of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). She did consulting work with the United Nations, the European Union; with the Rainforest Alliance Foundation and with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, IICA / OAS.

She has a Master’s Degree in International Relations: Integration, Development Cooperation and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Sociology, with a specialty in International Relations and Latin American Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid.
